Mathematics Guide

For those who are completely in the dark, Vedic mathematics sutras are derived from ancient Hindu scriptures and texts. Currently, it is considered as an alternative mathematics system compared to modern mathematics. That said, it is being introduced into modern day teaching because it helps students to cope with large numbers easily. It’s essentially a good way to handle numbers that you’d otherwise instinctively reach out for a calculator.

Overall, math teachers must attempt to achieve a variety of different objectives. These objectives have included teaching basic numeric reasoning skills, as well as the teaching of practical math and abstract mathematics concepts. Unbeknownst to many, there are currently no national standards for teaching mathematics in the United States. From kindergarten through high school, the mathematics education in public schools in the US varies a great deal in each state, and often even varies significantly within individual states.

The Georgia Performance Standards functions as a framework that provides students, teachers and parents with clear expectations for instruction and assessment of student work. The standards define the level of work that demonstrates achievement of the standards and enables teachers to know what kind of performance is adequate. They make it possible to isolate and identify the skills needed to use the knowledge to problem solve, reason, communicate and make connections with other information. The standards are broken into the categories of reading, mathematics, science, social sciences, fine arts, health education and physical education.
